Self-management
What is self-management?
Management of your pain gives you back control over what can often feel overwhelming. We understand that you know your own pain best so it’s important for you to feel educated and know which pain management works best for you.
The goal is to refresh old skills, or learn new ones, try them out and see what works. Pain is as individual as a finger print and should be treated as such.
Why is self-management important?
While an accurate diagnosis from a health specialist is key, the biggest differences to your daily life can come from self-management. It gives you back the control over your diagnosis and can significantly improve the quality of your health and well-being.
Some of the benefits of self-management include:
- A better quality of life
- Increased confidence
- Feeling in control of your condition
- Better clinical outcomes
- Feeling supported on your journey
This can be in the form of educational courses, personal coaching, easy access to resources and peer support networks. We work to encourage you to implement new skills and experiences into your daily life to improve and reduce the level of pain you experience.
We provide emotional and social support, which is key in keeping on top of any self-managed pain relief programme.
It helps you live with the pain that you have, try and find ways that work for you to help improve your quality of life with your pain condition.
How do I get support with self-management?
You can often self-manage your condition. Use our self-management area of the website to see how you can help yourself and gain further information and support. Choose the body part most relevant to your pain or choose a service of interest.
We have included local services and information to help you find out what is available in your area to help you get mobile and become more social for your wellbeing.
